I Still Got It!

My niece planned our family day starting with a trip to the rink. She knew her aunt could skate as a kid. I’m not even going to tell you how many years it’s been since I put on a pair of skates. The ones I’m wearing? They’re my custom skates from when I was a kid! Much to my surprise I can still do it! I was actually quite good back in the day and took lessons and did shows. After all, I grew up in Canada so we had a lot of ice!  I was shaky at first but it all came back. I even did a little jump! Après skate was brunch, books, hover boarding and a chihuahua in a euphonium!

Holiday Cas’

Not every night during holiday season calls for full blown cocktail attire. For dinner with friends I wanted something fun and holiday”ish” but we weren’t going anywhere fancy. Layers are key for me. Even when it’s chilly out I’m always way too hot when  I’m inside. While most of my outfit was in accordance with my standard black uniform, the top added shine and fun fringes. People make fun of us Northeasters for all of our black clothing, but there are so many pluses to the colour. Black is chic, slimming and elongating. When black pants are paired with black shoes or boots with one seamlessly fading into the other they trick the eye seeing long thin legs. Not so bad huh?

Bring It On!

I love snow. Sorry all you summer fanatics, but winter is just my favourite. Snow is pretty. Rain is just sad.  There’s nothing like putting on a great pair of jeans and a cozy sweater and watching the snow fall. Not to mention my favourite accessory — the scarf. I actually incorporate scarves into every season, but the winter ones are the best! I saw this sweater in the Nordstrom Savvy department right when it arrived and I had to have it. Something about it just called to me. It’s a nice chunky knit and has the hi/lo concept which gives it some funkiness. For me to buy something not on sale it’s gotta really be right. Here I paired it with jeans and my Sorel boots for a casual look. What good Canadian girl doesn’t own a pair of Sorel boots? I’ve also worn it to the office with black pants and riding boots giving it a totally different, yet equally cool vibe. Versatility is everything. Hope you like it as much as I do!

Snow Bunny

Snow Bunny

Finally we had a nice snowy day. I love winter and what’s winter without snow? I’ve had this issue finding the perfect winter puffer for a super long time. I’ve had the same one for years and it didn’t have a hood. How silly is that? If it snows or rains you should be able to quickly cover your hair right? I scoured every mall in the area and I couldn’t find one that was a combination of the features I wanted and the amount of money I was willing to spend. I try to save splurge money for things that will be worn frequently and are classic pieces. While it looks like I’ll be spending a decent amount of time in a puffer jacket this year, I couldn’t justify spending a huge amount. Finally I came upon this one. It was cute and reasonable and had a hood! An advantage to being a munchkin is that you can shop in the children’s department. The sales associates at Bloomingdales assured me that they all shopped in the kids department too. Part of the trick is to not buy items that look childish in childish colours. I figured that since the coat was black and gold it could be worn by someone of any age. This jacket is by The North Face and since it was kids it was less than half the price of the exact same one downstairs in the women’s department. Go me!
