Her Name Was Lola

I really have no idea who Lola is, but it’s a great little Latin Bistro by us with a very pretty fire pit outside. It’s not always possible to get in, so when they had space at the last minute we dashed out the door. I had a lousy week which means I went shopping this weekend. Everything is on sale now. Time to buy those boots and coats you’ve been coveting!

Black and gold is such a fabulous combination. It looks rich and put together no matter what you do. I saw this jacket and it was on sale for less than a third the regular price. It’s not like I don’t own a leather jacket, I just don’t own one like this! Then I couldn’t resist boots with matching gold studs. Too cool. Keeping the trend moving I put on a bunch of black and gold studded jewellery, a gold top and my favourite J Brand coated skinny black jeans.

Illusions

Illusions

The setting was perfect. The lighting was perfect. The outfit was adorable. The Missoni scarf was amazing. The Miu Miu sunglasses sparkled beautifully in the sunlight. My jewellery matched. Everything seemed like just another nice day.

The truth, however, was not so upbeat. I wore this on my way to my final doctor appointment before the surgery I was having the next day. A month prior I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The next day I was to have a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction.

My surgery was actually almost two weeks ago now and I can say that I am recovering well. They were able to get all the bad out of me and I will be fine when all is said and done. It is a long road so you’ll excuse me if I’m not posting amazing outfits for a bit. I actually debated for quite some time over whether or not I was even going to mention that I was going through any of this, or if I was just going to fake it like it was “life as normal”.  Then I decided that maybe others would appreciate some help dealing with how to get up, get dressed, and get back out there into the real world.

I do hope that I will be able help out those who have the same or similar challenges that I’m facing at the moment. Let’s face it — there’s nothing sexy about a mastectomy and the “lingerie” that goes along with it is less than appealing. Finding clothing that covers the attractive undergarments is not an easy feat! Hopefully some of my upcoming posts will help at least someone. For now, enjoy this one.

Bistro Chic

In case you haven’t noticed, I have a certain fondness for French food.  I can’t help it. This little bistro is one of our favourite local spots. It makes me feel like I’m in the South of France, even when I’m just stuck here in New Jersey. I went with one of my favourite combinations — tattered and chic. This DVF top has zippers up the side that let you choose the amount of “peek a boo” you’re in the mood for. Fun right? Add some edgy black and gold accessories and voila! Outfit!

Le Rendez-Vous

Ah. French food. What could be better? We went to a great, tiny little French Bistro in a nearby local town for supper. The chef/owner is actually French and the food is both authentic and delicious! I wish I was really a French girl. That effortless feminine style and knack for always being perfectly put together. Not sure if I always accomplish just that, but it’s the thought that counts!
