So Sunday at work is jeans day. YAY!! I find it so much easier to get dressed when my beloved denim is involved. It’s fun to dress up and oh so nice to mix it up and not wear yet another pair of black pants. Making denim work appropriate isn’t always an easy task though. It definitely requires a nice top and shoes. No sweatshirts and sneakers with ripped jeans in the office. Right?
One of my favourite designers for shirts is Rails. The shirts are a little pricy but the quality and design are both great. They’re known for their plaids, but have some “fancier” options too. Nice shoes? Right up my alley. These are Prada found on sale at Saks and they’re so unbelievably comfortable. The platform gives me height but keeps my foot flat. Bonus! They also opened a new Saks Off 5th close to me where I found these jeans. Probably too close!
I have to mention this necklace and my current obsession with said necklace. Have you seen the show Schitt’s Creek? Hilarious! Watch! Alexis wears this sideways “A”. I found one on the Anthropologie website and the day I got a free shipping email I made it mine!

I’ve been dying to go to Balthazar Restaurant in SOHO for sooooo long. Finally the hubby and I went for our anniversary. It’s so quintessentially French. If I hadn’t driven there I would have thought I was actually in Paris. It reminded us so much of places we’ve eaten in there. Loved it! If you’re in New York it’s a must!
Anyhoo… NYC outfits are so much fun to come up with. Sophisticated, trendy, edgy. Anything goes. While you can go to almost any restaurant in jeans I like to get a little more creative when I venture in. You would think that living such a short distance from the City we would go more often but it doesn’t happen so much. You can never go wrong with black leather anything. I had kind of envisioned a slip dress over the pants, but I just couldn’t find the perfect one. This tunic, however, jumped out and said “Buy me!”. I adore the blush colour and it added some lightness and femininity to the outfit. Have I ever told you how much I’m obsessed with scarves? They’re taking over the coat cupboard but I can’t help it. It’s that 3rd piece you add to your outfit for ladylike completion and there’s just so much variety and so many ways to wear them! Not sure how many more times this year I’ll get to wear my favourite Prada ankle boots. So sad!

Sometimes simplicity is the way to go. I have a hard time not adding that quintessential 3rd piece so a wrap or scarf just adds completion and finesse. These vegan leather leggings were on such sale that they almost paid me to take them out of the store. They’re Blank NYC and started out relatively expensive. There’s nothing like getting that amazing deal on an item of clothing you know you’ll wear over and over and over. Go me! I paired them with a simple long sleeved tee but I’m sure I’ll wear them with fancier tops as well. It’s all about versatility! Tip – when your pants and boots are the same colour it elongates your legs!

Is there such thing as too much leather? Nope. Don’t think so. I actually didn’t even realize that I was mixing so many leathers. Luckily it worked. Leather pants, leather jacket, leather shoes… Huh. I’ve seen the dress over pants thing done so many ways but they always tend to come off looking a little conservative for me. This pairing included J Brand stretch leather pants and an amazing animal print Elizabeth and James shirtdress. The chilly Northeast made me throw a leather jacket over my shoulders for nighttime warmth. Sleeve use — optional.

I admit it. I totally coveted this sweater from the day I saw it at Free People. I watched it, visited it, knew I absolutely had to have it. However, I never spend full price on anything, especially when it’s that expensive. It’s just a sweater. I could wait. And wait I did. Finally — 50% off! Woohoo! Mine! Since the sweater itself is such a statement I chose funky, but all black to wear with it so as not to overpower its awesomeness. Like it?

So it’s taken me a week, but this is what I wore to supper the night of my birthday. What number you ask? I’ll never tell. I have recently become a little obsessed with Urban Outfitters. They have an amazing selection of oversized, asymmetrical sweaters and tops and I want one of each! I snatched this baby up a couple of weeks ago and saved it to wear on my birthday with these beyond awesome Rag & Bone teal suede pants that I’ve been saving for a super long time! It’s kind of a personal tradition of mine to wear something new and special on my birthday. Do any of you do things like this?

The second the temperature drops the tiniest little bit I get completely psyched for fall. I feel more like myself in dark colours and boots. I started out getting dressed this evening in much lighter coloured garb. I couldn’t do it. I kept looking in the mirror and wondering who was staring back at me. I’ve realized that you should stay true to who you are — doesn’t only apply to outfits. If you’re not comfortable in an outfit don’t wear it out. More importantly, don’t buy it. Only spend your money on pieces that call to you and make you feel awesome!
