In The Bag

I recently found the Rue La La Handbag Style Guide. I love Rue La La for great shopping deals, but I didn’t know they had this cool blog too! There is a section about the history of handbags. So cool to see how they’ve evolved. There’s also a handy dandy little guide that tells you how to make sure your designer bag is real. I was inspired to share my favourite purses and let you know a little bit about what I absolutely must carry inside them.

Being a typical fashionista I love my purses. While I admit that most of the time I use one, I love to change it up when I’m going out and getting dressed up. My go to at the moment? A satchel by See by Chloe. I originally got this bag because not only is it beautiful and luxurious, it’s lightweight and has the option to be carried by the top handles or by the detachable shoulder strap. Lightweight is key for me. After multiple surgeries following my breast cancer diagnosis I just couldn’t carry a heavy bag anymore. The pink colour, however, is purely coincidental. I just like pink!

I’m kind of a “kitchen sink”  person when it comes to my purse. I like to be prepared. What can I say? And my method of organization is more of a lack thereof except that I prefer bags that have two small, easily accessible pockets on the inside — one for my glasses and one for my phone. I’m also a fan of the inside zipper pocket for lip gloss, a pen and all those department store cards that don’t fit in my wallet. Don’t judge. Everything else is a free for all. Must work on that!

Now, when it comes time to go out or dress up for an event the purse definitely changes to go with the outfit, the type of event, or maybe just my mood. I tend to go with smaller bags for evening or semi/formal events. Perhaps a clutch or baguette (you can learn about these in the handbag guide too!). You can have a lot of fun choosing bags on a per evening basis and they can totally make your outfit! I often borrow them from my mum who has a nice collection. These are a couple few of my faves…

Ooh Shiny!

My anniversary and my in-laws anniversary falls during the same week. Every year we try to plan a special dinner to celebrate. This year we went to the Capital Grille in New York. I wish I could have taken my photos in the City, but the weather, once again was stormy so I didn’t want to lug the camera in and have to run through New York in the rain with said camera. Always happens to me! Our weather truly stinks! One of the fun things about going out in a city is that you can be more adventurous with your outfits. There aren’t so many places out here in the ‘burbs where I would be comfortable wearing gold jeans. I love an opportunity to go a little crazy with my clothes!

It’s All In The Bag

So I totally selected my entire outfit to match my new purse. Ever done that? Gotten a cool new accessory and revolved your entire outfit around it?

I went with all pink and black everything to honour my new See By Chloe purse that I purchased that day at Bloomingdales. It’s not that I was really in the market for a new bag. I have many beautiful ones. Problem is that when you have surgery on your chest you can’t carry anything! I needed to find something that encompassed so many requirements. First and foremost; it had to be light! I also needed it to be big enough for every day, but not big enough that I would put my life in it and make it heavy anyway. Carrying handles so that I didn’t have a strap on my shoulder were an absolute must. This bag also did happen to come with a shoulder strap so that in a few months when I’m able I can carry it that way as well! I was actually looking for a reasonably priced temporary solution to my problem. My husband was with me and saw this bag and thought it was too nice to pass up. Who am I to argue?
