This weekend we somehow managed to pull off a 50th Anniversary party for my parents. Phew! Little stressful. Not gonna lie. All went off without a hitch except for ridiculously high temperatures and an air conditioning system that simply couldn’t keep up. The food was great, the drinks were fabulous, the cake was beautiful. The staff kept everything flowing flawlessly. Family and friends came from near and far. Smiles and laughter all around. Who could ask for more? Special appearances by my family, Lubi and my hubby (despite his complaining). The outfit? A light flowing maxi dress. I don’t think I could have dealt with anything heavier and flats, flats, flats. I ran around all night!

Office holiday parties require a certain amount of etiquette and panache. I actually bought this dress for another event and ended up wearing it to my husband’s holiday party as well. I love it when you get more than one use out of a dress. They cost a lot of money to just hang in a closet forever. Everyone agreed that this dress is just “so me”. Flowy. Of course. I searched and tried on, rinse and repeat. This gem was hunted down at BCBG and much to my surprise when I arrived at the register it was half off. Go me! It is an LBD but in this case the “B” stands for blue. It’s this fabulous steel shade and looks great paired with black tights and shoes and silver jewellery. It could also totally be worn in multiple seasons. In the summer skip the tights and pair with sky high, strappy sandals. Voila.

A family friend always teases me when I’m gussied up that I look like I’m all grown up. Who? Me? Here’s the dress, tights, pumps, clutch — all the workings of a grown up outfit. The bell sleeves really sold me on this dress. It felt so mod and fun to wear. I’m not usually one to wear green because my skin tone actually makes me a green person, but this jewel tone really worked. I bit the bullet and put on a pair of tights too. Those seams that go across your toes drive me nuts for the most part but I have to admit that these DKNY ones are really soft and quite comfortable. Your feet also slip around less in your shoes when you’re barefoot, but sometimes you just have to do it. And how about this clutch? I couldn’t resist!

A family event this past Saturday evening called for some fancy attire. It’s fun to play dress up from time to time. I’ve had this little number for quite a while, but I think this is only the second time I have worn it. That’s the sad part about most fancy dresses. They don’t get to leave the cupboard and play very often and they’re usually not cheap. A friend of mine had this dress in a gold colour and I loved it so much I bought it in silver. So I’m not a complete copy cat! Of course the Louboutin pumps were a no brainer. I love those things! The one area where I always find myself borrowing is in the evening bag department. I never have the right one! Good thing my mum does! Anyway, we danced the night away and had a blast!

After a whirlwind weekend being back in the suburbs wasn’t such an awful thing. It never is really, but the city is just so exciting by comparison. My mum spotted this dress at Nordstrom and decided I had to have it. It has a laid-back French vibe with a little bit of festival season built in. This dress will definitely take me through a few seasons. Since it’s still chilly here I paired it with black leggings, cardigan and booties. Over the summer it will go wonderfully with flat sandals for day or wedges for night. I piled on some cool jewellery and an amazing pair of Oliver Peoples sunglasses to complete the look. Voila!

I never really wear my hair up, but with this heat I had to do something to get it off of my back and neck! I went for the messy braid. I’m not one to do anything “messy”. It’s just not me. I’m more into smooth, straight and groomed so this was a change for me. Everyone said it was cute so I think I’ve found my heat wave hairstyle!
This dress was a cute option for the heat. The snow leopard print made me wish for cool days and the stud detail on the collar made it not so plain. I’m loving these Gucci aviators this season! I’m usually more of a plastic frame person because the nosepads on the metal frames get stuck in your hair, but on a really hot day there’s less frame touching you which is great.

This is the second hi/lo maxi dress option that I found. I love the summery colours in this one! It’s a perfect day dress when it’s really hot, which it truly was here! This one I found in the children’s department! Even though the colours are bright I didn’t feel like it made me look like a 12 year old. I can wear it with flats without tripping myself which is fabulous and saves a lot of potential embarrassment! I also, somehow, own sandals that are exactly the same colours. Go me!
