Those Sleeves!

I know. The same checked blazer has been everywhere, on everyone. “Me too” clothes. I didn’t even want one until I saw these amazing sleeves. OK. So they’re not practical for work because they’re kinda huge and get in the way, but so much fun for going out! I went with a velvet tank underneath because I’m notoriously hot in restaurants and paired with boyfriend jeans and loafers for an upscale casual vibe.

The new jewellery is my anniversary gift from my hubby and I love it! Swarovski crystal for our crystal anniversary. It’s so beautiful and I can see wearing it with really dressy outfits too! Enjoy!

Red Bottoms

Shoes, shoes, shoes. A blessing and a curse. I can no longer wear heels. Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis have rendered that impossible so I’ve found myself living in sneakers. Fortunately the athleisure trend is holding strong, but there are times when you have to look like human and need “real” shoes. I’ve termed them fancy flats. Of course being the princess that I am I always want something amazing that never usually goes on sale, but lucky for me (and not so lucky for hubby) the Saks a block from my hotel in NYC was having a 70% off sale. I kinda bought two pairs. Hey… I saved money right? 😉 Here’s the first. Enjoy!

Leather & Lace

Leather & Lace

OK. They’re suede but Suede and Lace didn’t have as nice a ring to it. Close enough! We ventured into New York City for our anniversary on Saturday night. I was hoping to be able to take more pictures when we got there but traffic didn’t allow us to do that. By the time we got into the City we were just in time for our reservation and it was dark. Oh well. I wanted something pretty but not fussy. Have you noticed I’m not much of a dress girl? I got this amazing Free People lace tunic and wore it over my Rag & Bone suede pants. I love how the sleeves gently cascade over my hands. A plus to having short arms? How could I pass up an opportunity to wear the Louboutin? They go with everything!

Holiday Time

Office holiday parties require a certain amount of etiquette and panache. I actually bought this dress for another event and ended up wearing it to my husband’s holiday party as well. I love it when you get more than one use out of a dress. They cost a lot of money to just hang in a closet forever. Everyone agreed that this dress is just “so me”. Flowy. Of course. I searched and tried on, rinse and repeat. This gem was hunted down at BCBG and much to my surprise when I arrived at the register it was half off. Go me! It is an LBD but in this case the “B” stands for blue. It’s this fabulous steel shade and looks great paired with black tights and shoes and silver jewellery. It could also totally be worn in multiple seasons. In the summer skip the tights and pair with sky high, strappy sandals. Voila.

So Fancy

A family event this past Saturday evening called for some fancy attire. It’s fun to play dress up from time to time. I’ve had this little number for quite a while, but I think this is only the second time I have worn it. That’s the sad part about most fancy dresses. They don’t get to leave the cupboard and play very often and they’re usually not cheap. A friend of mine had this dress in a gold colour and I loved it so much I bought it in silver. So I’m not a complete copy cat! Of course the Louboutin pumps were a no brainer. I love those things! The one area where I always find myself borrowing is in the evening bag department. I never have the right one! Good thing my mum does! Anyway, we danced the night away and had a blast!

Here We Go Again

It’s been a while since my last post. I’ve actually just had another surgery. It’s hopefully the last major surgery in the breast cancer battle that’s been controlling my life for almost a year now. I finally had my permanent implants put in! Not that I want to say I was excited about this one — one shouldn’t use the words excited and surgery in the same sentence, but it does mean that this saga is hopefully heading toward the end.

These photos were taken a few days prior to my surgery. I’ve been dying to wear something as classy as a pair of Louboutin pumps with something as casual as a pair of ripped up skinny jeans. I love to mix styles and take my favourite pieces and put them together in unexpected ways. It’s one of those things that mum probably wouldn’t get, you know. Make a statement. Throw on amazing jewellery and amazing shoes and the rest of the outfit will speak for itself.

Happy Anniversary

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse this year. Amazing, amazing, amazing! The Weehawken, New Jersey location has a gorgeous view of the New York City skyline that is so sparkly and beautiful at night. Sometimes it’s better not to cross the river and it makes for a great photo location! In one pic you’ll actually see a reflection of my husband, though he tried to avoid that happening. Of course every time I go someplace cool it rains. I think there’s a cloud that follows me when I leave town. Though once again I’m in all black, I took a break from my usual skinnies and tried out these track pants that have a sheer, shimmery overlay. They’re chic, comfortable and so of-the-moment. I paired them with a faux leather sleeveless top with a sheer back and let some skin show through. A departure from the norm for me! The outfit is from my favourite Nordstrom Savvy department of course. I can’t get enough and everyone there is so nice and helpful. Enjoy the scenery!
