Not every night during holiday season calls for full blown cocktail attire. For dinner with friends I wanted something fun and holiday”ish” but we weren’t going anywhere fancy. Layers are key for me. Even when it’s chilly out I’m always way too hot when I’m inside. While most of my outfit was in accordance with my standard black uniform, the top added shine and fun fringes. People make fun of us Northeasters for all of our black clothing, but there are so many pluses to the colour. Black is chic, slimming and elongating. When black pants are paired with black shoes or boots with one seamlessly fading into the other they trick the eye seeing long thin legs. Not so bad huh?

I’m back in black and biker boots! Woohoo! So have I told you I like fall? I haven’t had a new piece from All Saints in quite some time so when mum and dad arrived home from Scotland with this top I was psyched. I love their oversized flowy clothes. The woman in the store recommended to my mum that I wear it with coated jeans. Coated jeans are a wardrobe staple in my book. Of course the black are perhaps the chicest thing on the planet, but I own them in other colours too. I went all out today and wore my new studded biker boots too. I was so excited about the fall air that I dove right in. I feel like me! There’s no turning back now!

I really have no idea who Lola is, but it’s a great little Latin Bistro by us with a very pretty fire pit outside. It’s not always possible to get in, so when they had space at the last minute we dashed out the door. I had a lousy week which means I went shopping this weekend. Everything is on sale now. Time to buy those boots and coats you’ve been coveting!
Black and gold is such a fabulous combination. It looks rich and put together no matter what you do. I saw this jacket and it was on sale for less than a third the regular price. It’s not like I don’t own a leather jacket, I just don’t own one like this! Then I couldn’t resist boots with matching gold studs. Too cool. Keeping the trend moving I put on a bunch of black and gold studded jewellery, a gold top and my favourite J Brand coated skinny black jeans.

Ever since a family trip to France last year we’ve had a thing for moustaches. My brother couldn’t figure out why there were so many signs on the side of the road with moustaches on them. Those would be speed bumps. Fitting that they got me this fun infinity scarf for my birthday!
I decided that my outfit was so neutral that I needed a pop of colour somewhere in the mix. I just got these new Italia Independent sunglasses that are fuchsia velvet. What could be more fun and happy? Sundays aren’t dress up days. It’s usually the day that I do super fun things like go to the grocery. Woohoo! You never know who you could run into though so you have to put on an outfit that wouldn’t embarrass you should you be recognized. Maintain comfort and cute simultaneously! On our way out of town this morning we stopped at a nearby park with a little zoo and a horse track. It was a beautiful sunny day and I have this small obsession with goats so we stopped to pet them. I made a new friend!

So this was the first Halloween that actually happened in the North East in 3 years. While it was blustery and a little rainy, compared to last year’s aftermath of Hurricane Sandy it was a beautiful day! Generally I’m not a fan of Halloween, but who can resist dressing up two cute little dogs? I went with “normal” clothes but wore some happy, colourful skulls in honour of the day. I played up my look with some edgy spiky and skull jewellery and spiky boots and kept most of my theme black. My chihuahua Lubi went with a little devil costume, (some mights say this is fitting) and his visiting friend Milo the poodle decided to be a spider. So cute!

Yesterday I got some much needed “me” time and took a trip to my favourite mall, The Mall at Short Hills. While walking through Saks Fifth Avenue I was stopped by two super nice girls at the NARS counter who offered to do my makeup. Why not? It’s always fun to get pampered a little and look great when you’re done right?
Not only did they do my makeup, they taught me how to do exactly what they were doing! It’s great to leave looking fabulous but it’s even better to be able to duplicate the look at home. Doreen would do one side and then give me the brushes, showing me which sizes to use, and how to use them effectively for each step and I would do the other side. She emphasized the importance of highlighting and bronzing in the proper areas to make you glow and look alive. Perhaps the most important thing I finally learned was how to shape my eyebrows. Eyebrows have always been the most difficult part of my makeup routine. Doreen showed me how to set the points for each end and that perfect little arch in the centre so that I would appear bright-eyed and bushy tailed! They had just come out with a new eyeshadow pallet that gave you five colours to try for a reasonable price. A no brainer. When you first look at this blush in it’s cute little container you think “Holy Cow. That’s bright!”, but applied properly it’s actually amazing! I even got some fun little goodies with my purchase. Thanks NARS and Saks! So much fun!
