It’s Official

You know it’s summer when I step out in white jeans. OK. I’m old school. I cannot wear white pants or shoes before Memorial Day. Everyone says it’s a fashion rule to be broken. I disagree. That said once Memorial Day does hit I can’t stop rocking the white jeans. I have “nice” ones that are work appropriate and destroyed ones that are weekend appropriate. The key to white jeans? Don’t pair them with anything that will make you look like a nurse! Unless you are one of course. Here I paired my first foray with a breezy Free People dress and my new rose gold Birkenstock sandals. Love them! Oh… you know those sunglasses with flat lenses that are so hot now? Check out these Kate Spade!

Il Mantello

Il Mantello – Italian for a cloak, mantle, coat, casing, blanket, wrap. I remember asking my mum years ago to bring one back from Italy. She had one and I loved it and she always referred to it as a mantello. After all, mantello sounds much classier than blanket right? I’m so glad they’re all the rage this season. I was eagerly awaiting cool temperatures to whip it out. The rest of my outfit was inspired by a story on WHOWHATWEAR.COM called The It-Girl Secret to Looking Taller & Leaner. How did I do? I honestly don’t care about being short. Not a big deal to me. I do love a good layering technique though! This is also great way to wear a cropped top or sweater without bearing skin.

While I’m the furthest thing possible from a hippie, I do love a good boho chic outfit. Free people always makes the best flowy tops. I have to be careful not to buy too many! I paired my boho top with not so boho coated skinny jeans but did play up the vibe with some cool beaded jewellery and fringed booties. I like taking things to a new level, mixing and matching styles to make them my own. Creativity goes a long way and can make your outfit really stand out from the crowd.

Show Me Your Baby Blues

My outfit was inspired by these amazing baby blue ankle boots I found at DSW. The colour screamed “boots you can wear in spring!” They’re Crown Vintage which is a brand exclusive to DSW, as far as I can tell, and I’ve found it to be both very comfortable and well made. The tank I got last year right before my surgery. I didn’t realize at the time that my post mastectomy self would not lend well to tank tops. I held it up next to my new boots and voila — a match made in heaven. The weather was incredibly blustery so layering was essential. Jean jackets seem to have made their way back into the fashion world as of late and this one is actually kind of special. It’s an old Levi’s jacket that was my brother’s in high school. I stole it and kept it. Sorry dude! There’s even a little “signature” rip by the cuff that always told us it was ours.

Wrap It Up

I’ve been craving one of these faux wrap blouses for a while now, but my different sized breasts and need to wear a sports bra didn’t allow for one of these little numbers until now. Phew! I’m even! No more sports bra until they replace my expanders with my permanent implants. I’m looking forward to that! I’ve been longing for sheer flowing tops — something other than oversized, opaque button downs with crazy patterns that hid flaws and unattractive undergarments. After a shopping spree with mum at my favourite Nordstrom Savvy Department I broke out a new top for supper at French Bistro. Enjoy the sunset!

We spent the weekend in Atlantic City. Though we didn’t stay there, we spent a lot of time at the new Revel Casino. It’s a very cool building that I wish I could have photographed but the weather was so awful you couldn’t even see it! Everything is very minimalistic and kind of funky. Dinner with friends at Village Whiskey was both delicious and fun. You can order flights of Scotch which gave us the opportunity to taste some different things we’ve wanted to try for quite some time. It’s a casual restaurant so I didn’t feel the need to wear a dress. I went with trendy, funky and paired coated skinny jeans with a faux leather woven tank and peekaboo booties. You do soooo much walking when you’re at the casinos that heels are just not an option!

Simple Sunday

Simple Sunday

Working on Sundays. Not the best. Gotta do what ya gotta do. It’s really hard to get up early and motivate yourself to get dressed, put on makeup and do your hair after a Saturday night out, but you also can’t go to work looking like a mess. I went with soft neutral tones and punched it up a little with a fun animal print tank.

I’m so addicted to these Painted Threads cardigans! This one is made out of super soft t-shirt material. You can find them in the BP department at Nordstrom. They’re very reasonable and come in tons of colours. You should check them out! Had I realized that it was going to start snowing before I went home I probably would have gone with something other than suede boots! Oh well — too late!
